Schoolyard Garden Workshop
9 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday, April 14
Do you have an edible garden at your school? Looking for fresh ideas? Let Powell Gardens inspire you and your staff in new ways to design and use your edible schoolyard garden.
Walk with our gardening experts on a tour of the Heartland Harvest Garden, a 12-acre edible landscape brimming with ideas you can incorporate in your own schoolyard garden. Learn about beneficial and harmful pests; how to attract pollinators and butterflies; and how to tackle weeds while turning your produce into a classroom lesson. It will be a full day, and lunch will be provided along with a wealth of practical information on schoolyard gardening.
Breakout Sessions
Choose two of four breakout sessions to tailor that day to your specific interest and school's needs. Morning sessions include:
- Gardening for Butterflies
- What's Growing On? Tour in the Heartland Harvest Garden
After lunch, choose from:
- The Good, The Bad and The Ugly (Bugs) presentation
- Hands-On Gardening Practicum in the Seed to Plate Garden
Along with theses information-packed sessions you will receive a selection of edible starts to take back to your schoolyard garden. Teachers, administrators support staff and district volunteers are welcome to register.
