Making Memories for a Lifetime

Introducing children to the wonders of the natural world will nurture their enthusiasm for learning throughout life. Each season Powell Gardens offers a wealth of opportunities for families, young learners and the young-at-heart to learn together in an inspiring setting.

Whether you are looking for self-guided experiences or an engaging, in-depth program, Powell Gardens is a resource you can count on year round. Our current programs for children and youth include:

Youth and Family Classes

Class topics include bird watching, food preparation, Monarch butterfly tagging and more. Most of these classes take place on the weekend. See the current schedule of youth and family classes.

Scouting Programs

Powell Gardens' history with the scouting community dates back to 1969, the first year the Kansas City Area Council of the Boy Scouts of America used this land as a regional camp. Today scouts can earn a variety of badges during visits to Powell Gardens. Scouts can participate in activities that lead to a naturalist badge, world conservation award and more. We're also happy to customize a program just for you. See the options.

Home Educators

Powell Gardens makes a great outdoor laboratory to enrich your children's learning. Check our calendar for a schedule of drop-in opportunities ranging from Wednesday art projects in the summer to birding days in the winter. Our downloadable itineraries and scavenger hunts let you plan ahead. We've also tailored some of our school field trips to work for groups of mixed ages. Learn more.
