Youth Building in Progress Thanks to Generous Donors

Categories: Blog, Newsworthy

When the Heartland Harvest Garden opened June 14, 2009, Eric Tschanz, Powell Gardens’ President and Executive Director, announced the Youth Education Building would not be built until it is fully funded. Not long after, a board member stepped up with a gift of $100,000.  Then a former board member and her husband proposed giving $158,000 as a challenge grant to match with other gifts by December 1. As of November 17, the challenge was met totaling more than $400,000!

Construction is under way and the facility should be open in June. The building will house entertaining hands-on programs for children that will  inspire an appreciation for eating fresh fruits and vegetables.  This topic is especially important now as some research shows today’s children are predicted to have a life expectancy shorter than their parents, due in large part to the foods they eat and lack of exercise. Powell Gardens wants to do our part to reverse this trend.

Thank you for participating! Naming opportunities for memorials or tributes are still available throughout the Heartland Harvest Garden ranging in price from $500 to $25,000 and more. Please contact Don Schreiner for more information: 816-697-2600 ext. 238 or dschreiner@powellgardens.org
