Join us for an afternoon of hands-on learning and take home the knowledge to grow your own delicious mushrooms! Discover how to transform waste into a thriving mushroom harvest. Led by the expert team from Good Oak, Powell Gardens’ partner in the Midwest Center for Regenerative Agriculture, this workshop will teach you innovative techniques for cultivating gourmet and native mushrooms.
Participants will split into two groups and rotate through both activities.
- Log Pile Activity: Learn how to use the log pile technique, developed by Good Oaks‘ Farmer Dan, to grow lion’s mane, oyster, and shiitake mushrooms.
- Log Inoculation Activity: Explore efficient methods for inoculating mushroom logs and stumps with species like shiitake, lion’s mane, oyster, hen of the woods, and chicken of the woods.
Some walking is required to reach the site. Close-toe shoes and gloves are optional but recommended. Power tools will be in use; ear plugs provided. Optional heavy lifting.
