The Heartland Harvest Garden features roughly 1,500 species of permanent plants including fruit trees and a vineyard. Explore the adjacent interactive teaching garden used for K-12 curricular programming and enjoy respite from the sun at the shaded patio under the eaves of the beautiful Missouri Barn.
A short walk from the Visitor Education Center, the Island Garden is the centerpiece of Powell Gardens and features scenic views of the pond all season long and showcases various aquatic plants and seasonal displays. The living wall which winds through this garden features a wide variety of perennial plants that provide interest throughout the year. A short walk from the Island Garden, across a wooden footbridge, is the Prairie style chapel designed for Powell Gardens by architects E. Fay Jones and Maurice Jennings. Visitors will explore the interior and exterior design elements of the Chapel and its surrounding landscape. Finally, visitors will stroll through the adjacent prairie and wildflower meadow to the Jones and Jennings-designed Meadow Pavilion which offers a beautiful hilltop view of the gardens.
Discover native woodland trees, shrubs, herbaceous plants and shade loving plants in this garden designed to resemble a peaceful woodland and stream. This tour is inspired by what is currently in bloom or offering aesthetic or sensory appeal during any given season. Your tour guide will take special care to select several points of interest to showcase plants, trees and shrubs with beautiful or interesting features.
