Growing Together: The Power of Volunteers at Powell Gardens

When guests visit Powell Gardens, they often notice the breathtaking displays, vibrant seasonal color, and welcoming atmosphere that make each visit memorable. What they may not see is the incredible network of people working behind the scenes to help bring those experiences to life. 

One of the greatest strengths of Powell Gardens is our volunteer community. 

Volunteers are woven into nearly every aspect of Powell Gardens. They assist with special events, support educational programs, welcome guests, help maintain beautiful garden spaces, and contribute countless hours to projects that advance our mission. Their generosity of time and talent helps make Powell Gardens the special place so many have come to love. 

As Volunteer Program Manager, I have the privilege of seeing firsthand the impact volunteers make each day. One of the most rewarding aspects of my role is watching volunteers and staff work together toward a common goal.

Whether planting in the gardens, preparing for a festival, assisting visitors, or supporting behind-the-scenes operations, volunteers and staff create opportunities to learn from one another, build meaningful relationships, and strengthen our community. 

What I find most inspiring is that every volunteer brings a unique story and motivation. Some join because of their love for gardening and nature. Others are looking for ways to give back, meet new people, develop new skills, or stay connected to their community. Regardless of what brings them through our gates, they quickly become an important part of the Powell Gardens family. 

Their impact extends far beyond the hours they volunteer. Every guest they assist, every program they support, and every project they help complete contributes to experiences that inspire curiosity, foster connections with nature, and create lasting memories for visitors of all ages. 

To every volunteer who has dedicated their time, energy, and passion to Powell Gardens: thank you. Your commitment strengthens our mission and enriches the experiences we provide each day.
