Powell Gardens’ staff is responsible for facilitating rental agreements and payments, providing bar setup and bar staffing, providing event security, providing a staff liaison for facility needs including existing AV, and providing tables and chairs to the caterer for event setup. Powell Gardens does NOT provide wedding/event coordination prior to the event or during the event, decorations, reception setup, officiants, or transportation. Clients are welcome to hire a wedding coordinator of their choosing.

Photography & Private Events
Photography before and during your rental time is allowed in the outdoor garden areas. Photography is only allowed inside the Chapel or surrounding area during your contracted rental time.
When taking photographs in garden areas during public hours, pathways must be shared with visitors. Photographers are not allowed to block off areas or pathways to the public under any circumstances. Photographers are not allowed to move or remove any plant markers or in any way alter the appearance of the gardens.
It is best to have your photographer contact the Private Events department if questions or concerns arise.
Private Event Rental FAQs
No. In accordance with the liquor license issued to Powell Gardens through Johnson County, MO, clients are not allowed to provide their own alcohol during an event. Anyone not adhering to this policy will be asked to leave the premises.
Photographers, videographers, DJs, florists, wedding officiants, and event rental companies, can be chosen at the discretion of the client. An additional fee will be charged for caterers who are not on our preferred list.
Powell Gardens does not offer decorating services. Clients are allowed to customize their event or ceremony with decorations and can install decorations themselves or hire a planner/wedding coordinator to add extra décor. All decorating must take place during the outlined rental time, be removed by the end of rental time, and must be approved by the Private Events Department at Powell Gardens. Nothing is to be tacked, pinned, nailed, glued, etc. on any surface in any event venue. Pew bows must be attached using pew bow hooks or ribbon only at Chapel. Any candles used as décor must be flameless.
