Continue exploring off the beaten path. The Lotus Pond (located on the 1-mile Family Discovery Loop) features a mass planting of American Lotus and three new decks to enjoy pond-side.
Visitors enjoying the pond will spot a new body of site-specific sculptures created by Tyler Kimball, owner and founder of Monarch Glass Studio, in celebration of Powell Gardens’ 25th anniversary of the Festival of Butterflies. The sculptures made using a combination of solid glass sculpting and blown glass techniques are installed in the Lotus Pond among the American Lotus or Nelumbo lutea celebrating the plants entire blooming season.
About the Artist: Tyler Kimball
Tyler Kimball founded Monarch Glass Studio in 2015. Established in the city’s historic 18th and Vine district, Kimball produces sculptural glass objects, installations and artworks that are collected and exhibited regionally, nationally and internationally. American Lotus was conceived by Kimball and created at Monarch Glass Studio by Kimball and his expertly choreographed studio team comprised of; Alison Siegel, Joel King, Jake Arnett, Cole Kennedy and Adam Gard.

Over the years Powell Gardens’ has served as a destination for many photographers of all skill levels. In celebration of the beauty of the summer season and those with an eye for the details, the Gardens is hosting a Festival of Butterflies Photo Contest.
A single winner will be chosen for this year’s contest via Powell Gardens’ digital platforms, receive a Best of Powell Gardens Gift Basket, and serious bragging rights.
