About Powell Gardens

Established in 1988, Kansas City’s botanical garden, Powell Gardens, provides 175 acres of recreation, adventure, and exploration.

Visitors enjoy themed display gardens with rotating botanical displays, notable plant collections, seasonal programming and events, educational classes, art, architecture, breathtaking views and more.

As a non-profit organization, Powell Gardens welcomes donations of any size to support an experience that embraces the Midwest spirit of place and inspires an appreciation for the importance of plants in our lives. This would not be possible without generous contributions and funding from our dedicated supporters.

Visitor Amenities

As a tranquil place for guests of all ages to learn, play, and explore outdoors, Powell Gardens provides a retreat from urban life and is an essential part of the Kansas City experience. Donor support helps enhance key services and spaces throughout the Gardens (including architecture by E. Fay Jones) to meet the varying needs of our visitors.

Garden

Powell Gardens’ 970-acre footprint includes, but is not limited to, the Marlese Lowe Gourley Island Garden, the David T. Beals III Woodland and Stream Garden, and so much more. To invoke the unique feeling of the Midwest landscape and preserve the local ecosystem, much of Powell Gardens’ acreage is remnant (undisturbed) and reconstructed prairie.

Prairie Education and Conservation Areas
New programming will focus on conservation and restoration with native plants, including partnerships featuring Ona’s Prairie and Goats on the Go.

Design Fee
The Heartland Harvest Garden and Children’s Garden will be redesigned to reduce their maintenance needs, elevate design, and enhance the visitor experience with a special focus on regenerative agriculture.
