A new chapter officially began in March as Powell Gardens Colonial Farms celebrated its Grand Opening on March 21, 2026, following a ribbon-cutting celebration the day before. The event marked the first opportunity for guests to experience the beloved Blue Springs property as part of Powell Gardens and the community turned out in force to celebrate.
The acquisition of the property formerly known as Colonial Gardens was finalized on February 26, 2026. Located at 27610 E. Wyatt Road in Blue Springs, Missouri, Colonial Farms now serves as a second location for Powell Gardens, expanding the organization’s reach with a focus on agriculture, education, retail, and community connection.

Ribbon Cutting Marks a New Beginning
The festivities began with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on March 20, bringing together community partners, supporters, and staff to celebrate the transition and the opportunities ahead.
“Our goal is to honor what people already love about this place while building new opportunities for learning, agriculture, and community connection,” said Cody Jolliff, CEO of Powell Gardens. “Colonial Farms allows us to expand our mission in a hands-on way by connecting people with plants, food, and the land in meaningful ways.”

A Day Full of Learning and Exploration
Opening day offered visitors plenty of ways to dive into the Colonial Farms experience. Throughout the day, guests attended hands-on gardening classes and demonstrations, exploring topics designed to help gardeners of all skill levels grow with confidence. Families wandered the property, visited the farm animals, and browsed the vibrant garden center stocked with trees, shrubs, annuals, perennials, tropicals, and gardening essentials.
The strong turnout reflected the community’s enthusiasm for the property and its future as part of Powell Gardens. Many visitors were longtime fans of Colonial Gardens who returned to see the space again, while others were discovering the farm for the first time.

Spring Fling Closes the Day in Style
The celebration continued into the evening with Spring Fling, a lively kickoff event that brought guests together to toast the start of the season. Attendees enjoyed the festive atmosphere while exploring the farm after hours, celebrating the opening of a place that has long been part of the community’s traditions.
A Place to Grow
Now operating as Powell Gardens Colonial Farms, the property continues many of the experiences guests have come to love like plant shopping, seasonal festivals, educational workshops, u-pick experiences, and family-friendly activities. The wholesale operation and Whistle Stop Coffee Shop continue to operate.
Open daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. with free admission, Colonial Farms offers an accessible destination for anyone looking to connect with the outdoors, learn something new, or simply enjoy time surrounded by plants.
As Powell Gardens begins this next chapter, Colonial Farms will serve as a hands-on gateway to gardening, agriculture, and seasonal food experiences. This second site of Powell Gardens is a wonderful complement to the botanical displays and conservation programs at the Kingsville campus.
Together, the two sites are creating more opportunities for the Kansas City region to learn, gather, and grow through plants.
