On June 3, 2026, Powell Gardens welcomed supporters to the Grand Hall at Union Station—an iconic, historic space in the heart of Kansas City—for Fleur-ette 2026.

Beneath soaring 95-foot ceilings, framed by monumental arches and bathed in natural light, guests gathered in a setting as breathtaking as the Gardens themselves. The immersive celebration blended the splendor of nature, the art of living beautifully, and the joy of giving back. Thanks to the generosity of our sponsors and guests, the event continues to play a vital role in supporting our mission to inspire and educate through the beauty of the Midwest landscape. These funds help preserve native plant collections, expand educational programs, and create transformative garden experiences year-round.
That spirit of connection was felt throughout the event. Guests gathered in a vibrant garden party atmosphere, where the grandeur of Union Station was softened by lush botanicals and thoughtful design. Attendees enjoyed botanical cocktails, a curated marketplace of plant vendors, a fashion show by Halls, and warm conversation among fellow garden lovers. The elegant, welcoming setting echoed Powell Gardens itself—a place where natural beauty sparks creativity and community.

A highlight of the event was a talk from Margot Shaw, founder and editor-in-chief of Flower Magazine. Drawing from her work celebrating floral design, gardens, and gracious living, Margot shared insights on the enduring influence of flowers in our homes and lives. Her presentation wove together beauty, storytelling, and inspiration, offering guests a fresh perspective on living artfully with nature.
Prior to the program, guests enjoyed a seasonal luncheon in a setting designed to delight the senses and reflect the spirit of the Gardens. The experience invited guests to slow down, connect, and celebrate the joy found in both nature and community.

Ellen Merriman, Tess Merriman, Margaux Blackwell, and Mattie McGee served as Honorary Chairs. Event Chairs Lucy Coulson and Mindy Sosland led a dedicated volunteer committee, including Madelyn Burcham, Kristopher Dabner, Rebecca Coulson, Sally McEntyre, Ruthie Rinehart, Kirstin Salzman, Allie Sifers, Susan Spencer, Ashley Pindell, Anne Riker Powell, Wendy Powell, Cody Jolliff, Sharon Ramsey, James Healey, and Marty Arvizu, in bringing the event to life.
More than a beautiful gathering, Fleur-ette 2026 was a shared investment in the future of Powell Gardens. Together, we are ensuring the Gardens remain a place of education, conservation, and inspiration for generations to come.
We are so grateful for the support of our sponsors!
